SUPERMAN
TITLE // SUPERMAN WE DON'T NEED YOU ANYMORE
AUTHORS // natercia caneira + rogério jaques + pedro vieira + miguel simões
EXHIBITION NAME // Systemic Factors [ SOLO ]
YEAR // 2015
LOCATION // Portugal - National Museum of Natural History and Science, Lisbon
MEDIUM // Performance
MATERIALS // Body and Sound
ABOUT THE WORK:
Every 5 minutes a sound of someone breathing fills the room for 1½ minute. The sound of the breath was recorded during a running exercise of an Olympic athlete while training for the 800 meters. The 800 meters is the shortest common middle-distance track running and has been an Olympic event since the first games in 1896. The difficult breathing is a representation of someone under extreme physical effort, yet at peak of perfect health.
In a collaboration with a local theater group, an event was staged and performed under the title "Superman we don’t need you anymore" to create an overlap on the installation.
