ARCHITECTONICS
MY SITE-SPECIFIC INSTALLATIONS STARTED AS AUTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURAL SCULPTURES, CABIN-TYPE PIECES, WITH THEIR OWN INTERNAL ENVIRONMENTS. OBJECTS ONE COULD ENTER TO SENSE AND GRASP BEYOND PHYSICAL LIMITS. THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF A PERMEABLE SCULPTURE. THESE SERIES OF WORKS ARE DEDICATED TO THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SPACE, TIME, LIGHT, SOUND AND THE SCULPTURAL OBJECT CREATED ON-SITE. THESE ARE WORKS THAT REFLECT A SILENT THOUGHT ABOUT THE UNIVERSAL ELEMENTS EMBEDDED IN ALL HUMAN CONSTRUCTIONS.

TITLE // 12'000 METERS SYSTEMIC WALKING
EXHIBITION NAME // Identity and Circumstance [ GROUP SHOW ]
YEAR // 2014
LOCATION // Portugal - National Palace of Mafra, Mafra
MEDIUM // Site-specific Installation
MATERIALS // E-Glass roving thread
ABOUT THE WORK:
Built in the 18th century by King D. João V, The Chapel of Campo Santo is included inside the Royal Convent of Mafra and was a mortuary chapel. The patients from the convent's ward, the first one in portugal for the terminally ill, unable to walk outdoors were given the opportunity to attend, from the side tribunes, the exequies of those that died in the convent. On the altar a painting by Pierre-Antoine Quillard , The Last Supper, (1730) faces the main entrance and some long, narrow, very high windows. For 60 days the artist walked 12 kilometers inside the small Chapel while unwinding out a superfine fiber from a coil. The suspended sculpture derives from this continuous movement and connects the two opposite tribunes. With a 4 meters wide and 30 meters long, the object is weaved from fiberglass roving yarn, thus, enabling the subtil reflection of natural light along the day.

A escultura suspensa deriva desse movimento contínuo e conecta as duas tribunas opostas.

TITLE // NO LIMITS
EXHIBITION NAME // No limits [ SOLO ]
YEAR // 2008
LOCATION // Portugal, Centro Cultural de Odivelas, Lisbon
MEDIUM // Site-specific installation
MATERIALS // E-Glass roving thread
ABOUT THE WORK:
Site specific installation with an object suspended from the ceiling built of thousands of strings that are cut at the eye level height. Most visitors, of my height or taller, will find among the strings a free path to walk through; shorter visitors will walk under the object. As in an inverted labyrinth they will find dead ends, open paths, and two suspended tubular cocoon structures that may serve as a support for resting the head. The room is almost dark and the light reflected in the synthetic material creates an optical illusion that confuses the visitors.
