SELF
A DIALOGUE WITH MY OTHER HALF.
I NEVER FELT THAT MY WORK HAD A WORKING THEME, AT LEAST NOTHING VERY CONCRETE. PERHAPS BECAUSE I’VE ALWAYS BEEN TOLD THAT I AM INADEQUATE, IN THE WAY I SEE MEANING IN THINGS THAT NO ONE CARES ABOUT, OR THAT I GIVE IMPORTANCE TO THINGS THAT ARE ALMOST INVISIBLE, MONOTONOUS AND EPHEMERAL. ELEVATING A TOPIC TO A COMMON CAUSE HAS ALWAYS SEEMED A LITTLE DANGEROUS TO ME, A BIT OF TOTALITARIANISM IN THE FORM OF AN IDEA THAT SEEKS GENERAL AGREEMENT. “MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS” IS A LOST HABIT, BUT ONE THAT WE SHOULD ALWAYS REMEMBER. I THINK I’VE ALWAYS FOUND THE ANSWERS WITHIN MYSELF, AFTER ALL, WHAT WE SEEK IS ALWAYS OURSELVES.

LIFE BEHIDE GLASS
TITLE // LIFE BEHIND GLASS
EXHIBITION NAME // COdigo VIDa [ SOLO SHOW ]
YEAR // 2020
LOCATION // Portugal - Free Association, 77 ArtDesign, Castelo Branco
MEDIUM // Drawing - Sculpture
MATERIALS // Glass, 24k gold leaf
ABOUT THE WORK:
I have in the most distant memory of my childhood, the feeling of looking through the glass of a misty window and being mesmerized by the sunlight.
Outside, the soft, hypnotizing smooth movement of this warm light was calling me out and I wanted to be a part of it. Gradually my attention turns to the glass, to what mediates my inside and my outside, to the implicit absences, to what remains, among everything that departs.

TÍTULO // VIDA DETRÁS DO VIDRO
NOME DA EXPOSIÇÃO // COdigo VIDa [ INDIVIDUAL ]
ANO // 2020
LOCAL // Portugal - Free Association, 77 ArtDesign, Castelo Branco
MEDIUM // Desenho - Escultura
Lá fora, o movimento suave e hipnotizante dessa luz morna chamava-me e eu queria fazer parte dela.

SELF IN SILVER
TITLE // SELF-PORTRAIT IN SILVER
EXHIBITION NAME // Systemic Factors [ SOLO SHOW ]
YEAR // 2015
LOCATION // Portugal - National Museum of Natural History and Science, Lisbon
MEDIUM // Drawing , Site-specific Installation
MATERIALS // Draftex fim, silver leaf
ABOUT THE WORK:
These silver prints of my legs were part of an exhibition on the value of extra-human physical effort applied by high-performance athletes. For three years I joined the training of a middle-distance runner athlete and worked for him as a "Rabbit", a role that aims to set the pace of track training and "pull" the athlete to a certain distance. This project took me among the Olympic athletes. It allowed me to understand what drives human beings to extrapolate their physical limitations, suffer setbacks that are sometimes serious and continue to train to achieve an Olympic mark.

NOME DA EXPOSIÇÃO // Systemic Factors [ INDIVIDUAL ]
ANO // 2015

SELF IN GOLD
TITLE // SELF-PORTRAIT IN GOLD
EXHIBITION NAME // Identity and Circumstance [ GROUP SHOW ]
YEAR // 2015
LOCATION // Portugal - National Palace of Mafra, Hospital room, Mafra
MEDIUM // Drawing, Site-specific Installation
MATERIALS // Draftex fim, 24k gold leaf
ABOUT THE WORK:
This series of body prints began with the challenge I received from the museum director to make an exhibition in a room that all artists had refused until then. The first ward for the terminally ill in Portugal. The room, which dates from 1744, still retains the 16 individual cells and the original beds. I wanted to honor all those who, in obvious discomfort, rested there before they died. By lying naked on top of the gold leaf and white paper, I allowed the points where my body rested on the bed to be registered as if marking the final golden wounds of those who perished there.
