DISPLACEMENT
THIS PROJECT STARTED IN 2006 WITH MY FIRST TRIP TO THE SAHARA DESERT IN NORTH AFRICA. THE OVERLAY BETWEEN AN IMMENSE SCALE AND THE ABSENCE OF MY EVERYDAY REFERENCES, ALLOWED ME TO DIVE INTO THE ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BODY AND SPACE, PLACE AND HABITAT. IN A GLOBALIZED WORLD WHERE THE EASY MOBILITY OF SOME OF US COEXISTS WITH A GREATER AWARENESS OF THE COMPLEXITY OF OUR PLANET, IN ITS PHYSICAL AND CULTURAL SYSTEMS, IT BECOMES REALLY INTERESTING TO UNDERSTAND WHY WE KEEP THE NEED TO GO OUT IN SEARCH OF A DIFFERENT ANSWER.

MEDIUM // Drawing - Photography

ABOUT THE WORK:
The city of Sines, built on a hillside facing the sea, is characterized by being one of the main Atlantic ports in Western Europe. It is a place with a high number of panoramic pedestrian paths and viewpoints facing west, from which to observe the sea. This project comes as part of an artistic residency, where, while traveling through these predefined places, I drew the different perspectives of each of them. At the same time, I discovered the places that the inhabitants of Sines chose to gather in groups and I realized that they were never facing the sea. In fact, for these inhabitants, in a city strongly linked to the sea, leisure takes place on land, and for that, they turn their backs to the sea. As a whole, I carried out an intuitive mapping of the city. In its encounter with the maritime landscape, in the organization of public spaces by the municipality, and in the way in which the inhabitants enjoy it.
