LIQUID
THIS SERIES OF WORKS IS AT THE ROOT OF ALL THAT FOLLOW. ITS IS MY ENCOUNTER WITH THE CONCEPTS OF EXISTENCE / ABSENCE. A SEARCH TO UNDERSTAND REALITY AS A SET OF INDIVIDUAL PERCEPTIONS. IT STARTED WITH THE OBSERVATION OF THE LAMINAR FLOW OF WATER AND THE MINIMUM AGITATION OF A MOVEMENT. THE ORDER, THE CONSTANT SPEED, A CONTINUOUS “THREAD” WITHOUT TURBULENCE, WITH A CERTAIN VISCOSITY. SOMETHING VISIBLY SERENE AND SILENT, WITH INVARIABLE AND REPETITIVE TRAJECTORIES.

EXHIBITION NAME // ArteMar Sculpture Prize [ GROUP SHOW ]
YEAR // 2009
LOCATION // Portugal - Beach Boardwalk, Cascais
MEDIUM // Sculpture
MATERIALS // Stainless steel, Cascais beach sand, epoxy resin
ABOUT THE WORK:
This piece was made for a competition launched by the town of Cascais for the beach area. My proposal aims to create an interruption, and capture the attention of passers-by on their way to the beach. It is the mark left by my body, sitting by the water, on the wet sand and facing the sea. The portion of sand where I sat was removed into a stainless steel frame and its surface kept as it was at the time (almost liquid) by the use of transparent resin.

YEAR // 2009
LOCATION // Portugal - Passeio Maritimo de Cascais, Cascais
MEDIUM // Escultura

EXHIBITION NAME // Post minimalism and Anti-form, A Private View [ SOLO ]
YEAR // 2002
LOCATION // Portugal - Belém Cultural Center, Lisbon
MEDIUM // Sculpture
MATERIALS // Epoxy Resin
ABOUT THE WORK:
This piece was presented within the context of a theoretical course on post-minimalism and anti-form. It was an "happening" where I talked about the work (concept, construction and presentation) and aimed at discussing the role of "the concrete object". An overview on the role and influence of these artistic movements on younger artists, who, like me, were transitioning into the twenty-first century.

FLATLINE
TITLE // FLATLINE
EXHIBITION NAME // AR.CO Graduate Students Exhibition [ GROUP SHOW ]
YEAR // 2001
LOCATION // Portugal - Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon
MEDIUM // Sculpture
MATERIALS // Epoxy resin
ABOUT THE WORK:
The shape of this object represents an electrical time sequence of a random electroencephalogram. A final wave of an energetic movement frozen in time, seconds before collapse (brain death). A liquid appearance that serves here as a metaphor for life’s fragility, death and memory.
